WHO Declares Coronavirus a Global Pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic. This announcement comes as the number of cases outside of China continues to rise, with over 118,000 cases reported in 114 countries and territories.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated, “We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus. This is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus, and we have never before seen a pandemic that can be controlled at the same time.”

The declaration of a pandemic does not change the WHO’s recommendations for countries. Tedros emphasized the importance of countries taking a comprehensive approach to contain and control the spread of the virus.

As the number of cases continues to rise globally, health officials are urging the public to take precautions such as regular handwashing, practicing social distancing, and staying informed through reliable sources.
