WHO declares COVID-19 a pandemic
The World Health Organization has officially declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. This announcement comes as the virus continues to spread globally, affecting over 100 countries.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated, “We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus. This is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus, and we have never seen a pandemic that can be controlled at the same time.”
It is crucial for countries to work together to combat the spread of the virus and protect their populations. The WHO is urging all countries to take proactive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
- Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
- Stay home if you feel unwell.
- If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
By following these guidelines and working together, we can help prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and protect the most vulnerable in our communities.
